My wife and I debated heavily on vanities for our 3 to be 4 year old daughter and considered pottery barn Madeline play vanity and Debutante from land of nod(crate and barrel) among the potential candidates. First off let me say were glad we went with this one. The price was significantly less and allowed for us to spend the additional $80-$140 plus shipping on some other items to accompany this vs the competition.Next, here are some features that may not be clear in the description.1. the seat is hinged and allows for storage (excellent feature but children should be educated so the don't go slamming fingers as with any hinged item)2. the vanity wings are fixed (not a big deal and probably adds to the rigidity of the items, but we were not aware when purchasing)3. legs for bench and vanity are fastened similarly to that of our kitchen table by means of aprons and seem very sturdy.The only reason it didn't get a 5 start rating is because the finish on the top was a little more glossy on the outside edges all the way around. probably due to the method in which the edges were painted then the majority of the surface causing the edged to get a 2nd coat which allowed for a higher gloss finish. It looks great and we choose to go with the dark wood to match other furniture. As for the wood color, ours seems to be slightly hinted with cherry, but closer to dark espresso than cherry.notes:I am reviewing this after replacement of the bench top. the first one arrived with a chip, but was no hassle replaced by the mfg promptly. First impression and will update if experience changes.
